Meet Corissa

Entrepreneur & Business Expert

The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Corissa began her career as a middle school teacher after earning degrees at Cal Poly Pomona and UCLA. Working as a Los Angeles public school teacher during the height of the great recession inspired Corissa to launch her first mission-driven company. In 2007, Corissa and her partners opened Legacy Full Circle, a company dedicated to educating low to middle-income families about financial literacy and planning. Inspired to fill gaps for her community, she then opened three craft beer businesses over the next four years, establishing herself as one of the few female forces in a predominantly male industry. Her bars have been featured prominently in print and online publications, including the Los Angeles Times, LA Magazine, and EaterLA.

Never losing sight of the importance of giving back, Corissa has partnered with over a hundred aspiring chefs and restauranteurs of color. Drawing from her own experience as a first-generation college student and Latina entrepreneur, she takes pride in creating opportunities for entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities unfamiliar with the competitive landscape of business ownership.

A frequent panelist and moderator for programs and events focused on multicultural business ownership, diversity and inclusion, Corissa is an advocate for mentoring youth and young adults in the field of leadership and entrepreneurship.

OUTSIDE OF XELAS IN BOYLE HEIGHTS

Legacy Full Circle (LFC) was born out of a need for representation of women and people of color in the financial industry.  Founded during a time in which the nation as a whole was facing a financial crisis the LFC leadership team had a vision, to provide financial education to communities who need it most!  LFC takes pride in providing accessible resources to all and leveraging the playing field when it comes to building a financial legacy for generations to come.

Corissa's several business ventures include co-founding Xelas in Boyle Heights, Craft Beer Cellar Eagle Rock, and another one set to open in early 2020.

Both bars are a labor of love, especially co-owning it with her husband. Check them out below.
